Disabled concessionary bus-pass holders across England are set to get free local bus travel at any time of day from 1 April 2027.

At present, the national scheme generally guarantees free weekday travel only after 9.30am, unless a chooses to provide more generous terms.

The change is backed by £60 million and is intended to make it easier for disabled people to travel to work, education, training, healthcare and social activities without having to plan around an arbitrary morning cut-off.

Transport policy can sound abstract until the practical translation is made: an early hospital appointment, shift or college class will no longer automatically sit outside the national free-travel window.
