Community groups across York have been invited to put forward ideas for the latest round of council funding, with applications open until 27 September 2026.
The second funding round of the 2026/27 year is open to community groups, charities and voluntary organisations working in neighbourhoods across the city. The money is intended for practical projects that make a clear difference to local residents.
City of York Council says applications should show how a proposal contributes to at least one of four city priorities: equality of opportunity, affordability and the , climate change and the environment, or health and .
Groups also need to show that their project responds to the priorities of the ward where they are applying and provides a service or opportunity for people in that area. Applicants are being encouraged to check the council’s ward map and individual ward pages before submitting a proposal.
Previous ward funding gives a useful sense of the range of ideas that can be supported. The council says earlier grants have helped Door 84 Youth & Community Centre run a ten-week cooking programme, supported improvements to an outdoor shelter used by Fulford Scout Group, and backed an inclusive book group run by Shared Story .
Other examples include community music sessions from Musical Connections, Strensall Youth Club activities, Tang Hall Breakfast Club’s pay-as-you-feel Friday breakfasts, improvements to a path leading to a play area in Rufforth with Knapton, and Peace of Cake’s social group for people experiencing isolation.
organisations must be properly and have a bank account, or have a sponsor organisation able to hold funds on their behalf. Groups working across more than one ward can make applications in more than one area where there is a clear local need and identifiable .
The current round is due to close on 27 September 2026, subject to funding remaining available. Applications can be made through City of York Council’s ward application service, while groups that need advice can contact their local Community Officer.
