Birmingham Dogs Home has discovered a new fundraising formula involving country music, line dancing and a bucking bronco.

The charity turned its Solihull rescue centre into a mini country festival on 22 August, with live acts including Kassidy Kiernan, Two Ways Home, Buckle ’N’ Boots and Country Chix.

The evening also included western-themed games, food, stalls and dancing, with proceeds supporting the charity’s work caring for homeless dogs across Birmingham and the West Midlands.

Birmingham Dogs Home has been operating since 1892 and receives no government funding, so events and donations form an important part of keeping its rescue centres running.

The dogs themselves were not invited to the festival, which was probably wise. There are only so many logistical variables one event can absorb before somebody ends up line dancing with a Labrador.
