A Billingham student who helps care for her older sister has achieved a perfect 100 per cent mark in Health and alongside an impressive set of GCSE results.
Katie, from St Michael’s Catholic Academy, achieved full marks in the qualification earlier this year. On GCSE results day she added Grade 9s in English Literature, History and Religious Education, a Grade 8 in English Language, Grades 7 and 6 in Combined Science and a Grade 5 in Maths.
Outside school, Katie helps care for her older sister Vicky and works with Eastern Raven Trust, the Stockton charity supporting young carers. She has also spoken publicly about young carers’ experiences at events including Young Carers Action Day.
She is moving on to Stockton Sixth Form College to English Literature, Sociology and Politics. The results are impressive on paper, but the more remarkable bit is how much life Katie has been balancing around them.
