More than 1,000 young people across Mid-Cornwall are celebrating GCSE results after five schools awarded a combined 8,833 qualification grades.
Cornwall Education Learning Trust says students achieved 329 Grade 9s and Level 2 Distinction*s, alongside almost 2,000 grades at 7 or above. More than three quarters achieved at least a Grade 4 in English and more than two thirds did so in Maths.
There were individual school gains too. Bodmin College recorded a third consecutive year of improvement, while Newquay Tretherras placed in the top 20 per cent nationally on several measures and Penrice Academy reported particularly strong science results.
The numbers are large, but they resolve into more than a thousand separate next steps: sixth form, college, apprenticeships, employment and whatever comes after the envelope is opened.
