Brighton RNLI is recruiting six volunteer lifeboat crew members and two launch authorities as its station continues responding around the clock to incidents off the Sussex coast.

Brighton RNLI is looking for eight new volunteers to join the team that responds to people in difficulty on the water around the Sussex coast.

The station is recruiting six volunteer lifeboat crew members and two launch authorities. The crew operates around the clock from Brighton Marina and responded to 65 taskings last year.

An increasing number of those incidents involved people in the water, including swimmers, paddleboarders and kayakers.

RNLI stations depend on volunteers both on and off the lifeboat. Crew members receive training for the role, while launch authorities help make operational decisions when the lifeboat is needed. For local people who want something rather more consequential than another evening on the sofa, it is a chance to become part of a lifesaving team with more than two centuries of history behind it.
