A repair café launched in Petersfield this year has already helped more than 200 people give broken belongings another chance before sending them to the bin.

Petersfield Climate Action Network set up the volunteer-run Repair Café at Avenue Pavilion with support from a £10,000 East Hampshire District Council climate .

Since opening in March, more than 150 items have been brought in for assessment or repair. Volunteers tackle everything from clothing, toys and jewellery to laptops, electrical items, bikes, garden tools and furniture.

The idea is practical. Residents can get something repaired, learn how it works and sometimes pick up enough confidence to tackle a similar job themselves next time.

The café meets on the last Saturday afternoon of each month. Every successful repair saves somebody the cost of a replacement and keeps the materials and embedded carbon in an existing product useful for longer. It is climate action at the extremely local end of the scale, often involving a screwdriver and a slice of cake.
