A council cake sale in Hertfordshire is pairing a familiar community fundraiser with information that could help people recognise a medical emergency.
Three Rivers District Council is raising money for the UK Sepsis Trust while using the event to increase awareness of the signs of sepsis.
The council's Healthy Hub team will also be present with wider health and advice.
Sepsis is a life-threatening response to infection, so helping more people recognise when urgent medical may be needed gives this relatively simple fundraiser a second purpose beyond the money it raises.
