Surplus phones, tablets, laptops and monitors are being given a second life in schools and charities across North West England instead of sitting unused.
The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority says it has donated more than 1,500 devices to around 50 organisations since 2021, including groups in Cumbria, Lancaster, Warrington and Manchester. The refurbished technology is helping people access education, support services and communication.
A recent donation of more than 130 iPhones went to Women’s Community Matters in Barrow. Some devices are being used by staff and others are going directly to people who need reliable access to communication, including clients facing barriers. It is a tidy example of reuse doing two jobs at once: cutting waste and widening access.
