More than 500 learners across Suffolk New College’s four campuses have gained Grade 4 or above in GCSE English or maths, with results improving for both resit students and adult learners.
Across Ipswich, Otley, Halesworth and Leiston, 228 learners achieved Grade 4 or above in maths, a 13.7 per cent increase on 2025, while 274 achieved the threshold in English.
Many of the learners were taking resits or studying through ESOL programmes. Adult English results were particularly encouraging, with 20 per cent more adults achieving Grade 4 or above than the previous year.
GCSE resits are rarely the bit of education that gets glossy prospectus . For the people who need those qualifications for a job, apprenticeship or university course, though, a Grade 4 can be one of the most useful numbers they receive all year.
