More than 70 people have taken part in a 12-hour walking football marathon in south Essex, raising almost £5,000 for Prostate Cancer UK.
The event ran from 9am to 9pm at the SECAT Community Football Pitches at Shoebury High School. At least nine established teams took part alongside individuals who joined specifically for the fundraiser.
Players scored more than 125 goals over the course of the day, while local businesses and residents donated refreshments, raffle prizes and other support. Southend East Community Academy Trust provided the facilities and staff free of charge, helping more of the money raised go directly to the charity.
Organisers hope the event will also encourage more people to try walking football, which offers a lower-impact route into team sport while the social side of the game.
