The University of Liverpool has secured €4.4 million from Horizon Europe for a doctoral programme bringing materials chemistry, data science, robotics and advanced manufacturing into the same training environment.
The five-year iDTC-MIF programme will bring two cohorts of international postgraduate to Liverpool’s Materials Innovation Factory, where robotic synthesis and digital tools are already used to discover and test new materials.
Researchers will work with industrial partners and develop skills in , and translating laboratory discoveries into useful products.
Materials science hides underneath an enormous amount of daily life, from batteries and buildings to healthcare technology. Training people who can move comfortably between chemistry, code and manufacturing is part of making the next generation of those materials actually leave the lab.
