East Midlands brownfield programme is turning long-empty sites into affordable homes

The East Midlands Combined County Authority says its brownfield housing programme is supporting dozens of schemes, including affordable homes in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.

Previously unused and derelict sites across the East Midlands are being brought back into use through a housing programme that has already backed dozens of developments.

The East Midlands Combined County Authority says £93.7 million has been secured across three phases of its Brownfield Housing Fund, helping unlock land that might otherwise have remained vacant.

Projects already moving forward include 159 affordable homes across Arnold, Chesterfield, Warsop and Newark, 104 affordable homes around Nottingham’s former regional war room and 43 homes on a long-underused site in Mansfield.

Across the first two phases, 24 schemes were expected to deliver 1,765 homes, around 40 per cent of them affordable. The wider programme is now moving into another phase while the authority works with Homes England and local councils on longer-term housing and plans.
