Sheffield Theatres is launching a new two-week festival designed to give emerging ideas, new writing and developing theatre a place alongside established artists.
Open Works runs from 28 September to 10 October across the Playhouse and Montgomery venues. The programme includes finished performances, works in progress, rehearsed readings, scratch evenings, conversations, workshops and networking events.
The festival is intended to become an annual platform for theatre-makers from Sheffield, South Yorkshire and beyond. Alongside public performances, it includes development opportunities for writers, companies and creative practitioners who want to test work before an audience or build new skills.
Sheffield Theatres is also working with New Earth Theatre to create opportunities for British East and South East Asian artists, including mentoring, networking and space within the festival’s work-in-progress and scratch programmes.
