More than £2.27 million secured through Environment Agency action over pollution incidents is being redirected into wildlife and river-restoration projects.

Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust will receive more than £1.8 million, including support for the Severn Treescapes programme, while Severn Rivers Trust receives £450,000.

The money will support tree planting, river work, wetland creation, reconnecting floodplains and measures designed to reduce pollution reaching waterways.

The original pollution is not good news, obviously. The constructive part is that is turning a sum back towards repairing the landscape that was harmed rather than allowing the incident to end with paperwork and a corporate shrug.
