Newcastle has secured £141.4 million to build 966 new council homes after becoming one of Homes England’s partners in the latest social and programme.

The funding will support council-owned homes across the city over the coming decade and forms part of Newcastle’s wider ambition to deliver 15,000 new homes.

For people on housing waiting lists, the useful distinction is the word council. These are intended to be genuinely affordable public homes rather than another large housing number containing only a small affordable slice.
