A Sheffield specialist school has been recognised for an approach to physical activity built around finding something each pupil can actually enjoy and succeed at.
Lotus Academy received the Physical Literacy in PE, School Sport and Physical Activity Award at the Sheffield Schools Get Active Awards. The school supports children and young people with social, emotional and mental-health needs.
Activities offered have included mountain biking, boxing, swimming, ice skating and abseiling. For pupils who may not have felt at home in conventional school sport, the variety matters: the goal is confidence, skills and movement rather than forcing everybody through the same narrow doorway.
