London’s Cycleway network reaches 450km after growing fivefold in a decade

London now has 450km of signed Cycleways, five times the network it had in 2016, with around 1.5 million cycle journeys made each day.

London’s Cycleway network has reached 450km, making it five times larger than it was a decade ago.

The network has grown from 90km in 2016 and now stretches further than the distance from London to Paris. Transport for London says around 1.5 million cycle journeys were being made each day in 2025.

Recent additions include new or extended routes in Islington, Camden, Wandsworth, Kingston and across Lambeth Bridge, linking homes with town centres, schools, workplaces and public transport.

The milestone does not mean every London journey has suddenly become bicycle-friendly, but it does mean considerably more people have the option of a route designed around cycling rather than simply being expected to negotiate traffic and optimism.
