A Darlington charity that provides refuge for women and children fleeing domestic abuse has received £15,000 to strengthen support for children staying at the service.

Family Help Darlington will receive the money over three years through Durham Freemasons. The funding is intended to support and early- work for children affected by abuse.

The charity has been providing a safe place for women and children in Darlington for almost 50 years. The new gives it a longer-term pot of funding rather than a one-off donation, helping the service plan support across several years.

For children arriving at a refuge, safety is only one part of recovery. Early emotional and therapeutic support can help families deal with the effects of what they have experienced while they begin rebuilding everyday life.
