Somerset community centre cuts annual heating bill by more than £10,000 after green upgrades

A busy Somerset community centre says its annual heating has fallen by more than £10,000 after a series of energy-efficiency improvements.

Burnham-On-Sea Community Centre has completed the latest phase of its modernisation programme, renewing its roof and installing embedded solar panels with £40,000 of support.

The project received £20,000 from Somerset Community Foundation and another £20,000 through the National Lottery’s Awards for All programme.

Previous work included replacing the old heating system with modern infrared heaters. The centre says the cost of heating the building has fallen from roughly £14,000 a year two years ago to around £5,000 now.

That saving matters twice. It reduces the building’s energy use, and it leaves more of the centre’s money available for the actual reason the place exists: hosting people, groups and activities rather than quietly feeding an expensive boiler.
