Work has begun on 50 new affordable homes in Shildon, County Durham, with most of the development set aside for social rent.
The £10 million Redworth Road scheme is being delivered by Karbon Homes with Oaktree Living. It will include two-bedroom bungalows as well as two, three and four-bedroom family homes. Of the 50 properties, 35 will be for social rent through Durham County Council, while 15 will be offered through Rent to Buy at rents set 20 per cent below local market .
The project is supported through Karbon’s with Homes England. It forms part of a wider programme to increase across the North East and Yorkshire, with the mix of bungalows and family homes intended to meet different needs within the local community.
