A vacant community centre in Wolverhampton is set to be brought back into use after £400,000 was approved for repairs and accessibility improvements.

Portobello Community Centre on Hill Road has stood empty since the previous community left in December 2023. The planned work includes roofing, electrical and accessibility upgrades intended to make the building safe, usable and attractive to a future community occupier.

The project is one of the first priorities being delivered through the Pride in Place programme after local residents highlighted community spaces and facilities during on longer-term plans.

Funding includes £124,000 from the government’s Pride in Place programme and £276,000 from City of Wolverhampton Council. The aim is to give community groups interested in taking over the building a much stronger starting point.
