South London is getting a new closed-road half marathon, and charity fundraising is being built into the event from the beginning.
Run South London is due to take place in the London Borough of Merton on 14 March 2027. The event is being developed by Merton Council with The Great Run Company, the organisation behind major races including the Great North Run and Great Manchester Run.
Organisers expect thousands of runners from across the UK to take part. The route is planned to pass sporting landmarks and green spaces in the capital, giving the event a distinctly local identity rather than simply adding another race to the calendar.
A with JustGiving means participants will be able to create fundraising pages as part of registration. Charities can also access packages that include visibility in event communications, a presence on the official website and space in a charity village on race day.
The result is a neat overlap of , community activity and fundraising. If the event reaches the scale organisers expect, one morning of running through Merton could translate into thousands of individual fundraising efforts for causes across the country.
