Norfolk is set to receive two new community centres and a dedicated mental health emergency department as part of a major expansion of NHS mental health facilities in England.

The community centres are planned to serve North Norfolk and East Norfolk, including Great Yarmouth and Waveney. A separate specialist mental health emergency department is planned at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.

The national programme is backed by £343 million and is intended to move more support into local communities, with walk-in access and earlier help before people a point where hospital admission may be needed.

Norfolk already has REST hubs offering non- mental health support on a walk-in basis. The new facilities are intended to add more NHS clinical capacity and dedicated crisis care alongside that existing community support.
