Businesses, charities and community organisations across Greater Manchester are set to be invited to propose their own ideas for improving local high streets through a new £20 million fund.

The Good Growth High Streets Fund is expected to open for applications later this year, with projects aimed at bringing more activity, investment and useful spaces into town centres.

The detail of individual grants is still to come, but the approach puts local organisations in the room rather than treating high-street renewal as something done entirely to a place from above. The most interesting proposals may well be the small ones that only make sense if you actually know the street.
