Birmingham will host the British Transplant Games from 29 July to 1 August 2027, bringing transplant recipients, living donors and their families together for four days of sport and celebration.

Around 1,500 participants will stay at a dedicated Games Village at the University of Birmingham, with competitions spread across university venues and the wider city.

The annual Games include more than 20 sports and bring together transplant recipients from children as young as two to adults in their eighties. An academic conference on transplant medicine will run alongside the Birmingham event.

The medals matter, but the event has another scoreboard entirely: people competing because organ donation gave them the chance to be there at all.
