Armagh record-breaker turns a lifetime of unusual challenges into a charity children’s book

An Armagh fundraiser whose past challenges include pushing a pea with his nose for two and a half miles and walking backwards for more than 80 miles has turned his adventures into a children’s book for charity.

Willie Nugent’s From the Top of Gas Lane to the Top of the World marks 40 years since one of his best-known exploits, when set a Guinness World Record by standing completely still in a London shop window for 13 hours.

Over the years his challenges have raised money for organisations including Friends of the Cancer Centre, Action Cancer, Alzheimer’s causes and Multiple Sclerosis charities.

Proceeds from the new book will support Little Heroes at the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children. Nugent says its central message is simple: improbable ideas are allowed, and people should not give up on their dreams just because they sound a bit ridiculous at first.
