A Welsh electric car-sharing scheme has grown to 13 community clubs and more than 500 members, giving people access to a vehicle without requiring them to own one outright.
TrydaNi is backed by £1 million of Welsh Government funding and is open to individuals, businesses and non-profit organisations. New clubs have opened this year in Swansea, Penygroes and Abergavenny, with Bangor next on the list.
In Aberystwyth, the club has grown to 99 members since December 2024, sharing two electric vehicles. Cars can be hired by the hour or day and unlocked through the scheme's app.
Car sharing will not replace buses and trains, particularly in rural areas. It does offer another useful middle ground: access to a car when somebody genuinely needs one, without every household having to buy, insure and park its own.
