Community projects across the UK and Ireland received a record £24.9 million through SSE's community investment programmes over the past year.

The company's latest review says funding supported nearly 1,300 projects. The work helped create or 214 jobs, funded 268 scholarships, improved or created 99 community assets, enabled 481 schools to access STEM opportunities and supported 81 community energy projects.

Examples range from and fuel- support to opportunities for young people entering the fishing industry and locally owned energy projects.

The figures show how investment linked to major can beyond construction itself when communities have a meaningful role in deciding where funding goes.
