Dance Base in Edinburgh has secured £57,556 to make its studios more to the increasingly awkward business of Scottish weather.

The national centre for dance will use the money for draught proofing, insulation and heating improvements at its Grassmarket building, helping keep the studios usable when outside temperatures swing more sharply.

The comes from the Adapted Cultural and Creative Buildings Fund, a pilot programme run by Creative Scotland and the Scottish Futures Trust. Eight cultural organisations across Scotland have been selected for support, with projects tackling problems including overheating, damp, heavier rainfall and cold indoor spaces.

Dance Base runs classes, artist development and community activity from four studios in central Edinburgh. The work is less glamorous than a new stage or shiny extension, but it protects the thing that matters most: keeping the rooms comfortable enough for people to actually dance in them.
