North Ayrshire is handing local residents a direct role in deciding where more than £82,000 of community funding should go.
The latest Budgeting fund offers £82,185 for projects focused on community action, greener neighbourhoods, innovation and local ownership.
Groups submit ideas, but the participatory part matters: communities get a say over which proposals receive support rather than every decision being made behind an office door.
It is local democracy at a manageable scale. Nobody needs to understand a national budget spreadsheet to decide whether a youth project, community garden or neighbourhood idea deserves a few thousand pounds.
