A project to create modern, fully accessible public toilets at Nairn Links has moved closer to delivery after councillors agreed to allocate up to £200,000 from the Nairn Common Good Fund.
The proposed facility includes a Changing Places toilet, designed for people who need more space and specialist equipment than a standard accessible toilet can provide. Highland Council says the project has been shaped through community and supports priorities identified in Nairn’s Local Place Plan and Links Development Plan.
The overall build is currently at around £509,000. The project has already passed several milestones, including , selection of a preferred design and submission of a . Subject to planning approval, detailed design work will continue while the project board seeks the remaining funding.
Councillors also used the latest Nairnshire Committee meeting to recognise the volunteers, charities and community organisations that helped deliver the Nairn Highland Games on 15 August. Green Hive received particular praise for environmental work during and after the event, including a bottle-recycling challenge for young people and a 12-strong volunteer clean-up team working alongside the council’s waste service.
The same meeting approved the area’s 2026/27 winter service plan, including continued promotion of the Winter Scheme, which allows local communities to take part in footway gritting with equipment and materials supplied by Highland Council.
Taken together, the updates show several strands of local improvement moving at once: better accessible , stronger volunteer involvement and practical support for communities during winter.
